Franklin County Furventure Program

The Franklin County Furventure Program gives shelter dogs a break from kennel life while helping them show their true personalities outside the shelter.
Approved participants can take a dog out for a few hours or even overnight to enjoy everyday experiences like going for walks, relaxing at home, visiting local parks, or meeting new people. These short “furventures” give dogs the chance to decompress, reduce stress, and practice being part of a home environment.
Furventures also help our team learn more about each dog’s behavior, preferences, and needs, which allows us to create better adoption matches. Many dogs return from their outings more relaxed, confident, and easier for potential adopters to connect with.
All dogs in the Furventure Program are fully vetted, and Franklin County Humane Society provides supplies, guidance, and support for every outing. Participants are not committing to adoption, just providing a temporary experience that makes a lasting difference.
By opening your heart and your schedule for a few hours or a night, you can help an orphaned dog take one more step toward their forever home.
