The vouchers allow families who qualify to receive a sterilization surgery for their pet for $25.00 per surgery. The voucher fee of $25 is a significant savings from the standard costs of pet sterilization surgeries. The average veterinary fee for feline surgeries is $150. The costs for canine surgeries vary due to the size of the dogs and can exceed $250.
Participating veterinarians must be contacted within 90 days of the date of the voucher purchase to schedule surgeries. Due to the local demand for veterinary services, surgery appointments may be scheduled out over several months.
The FCHS Pet Friendly Spay/Neuter Voucher Program is made possible by a $2,000 grant from the Missouri Department of Agriculture and the Missouri Pet Spay and Neuter Fund. The Missouri Pet Spay and Neuter Fund is supported by the sales of “I’m Pet Friendly” license plates through the Missouri Department of Revenue. FCHS is one of only ten animal welfare organizations in Missouri to receive this grant award. Learn more about the “I’m Pet Friendly” license plates at mostatehumane.org.
An additional $5,500 in grant funds were received from Walmart stores in Cuba, Eureka, Sullivan, and Washington. The Rotary Club of Washington donated $500 to the program. An anonymous supporter also contributed $2,000 to the program. All funds will pay for spay and neuter surgeries for pets of low-income families.
Spay and neuter surgeries are included in the adoption preparation services of all animals adopted from FCHS. Animals served by the Pet Friendly Spay/Neuter Vouchers are owned pets that were not adopted from FCHS.
Vouchers are available to purchase during regular business hours. Business hours are Monday 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Wednesday through Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. FCHS is always closed on Tuesday for deep cleaning and closed on Sunday.
