Adoption Procedure & Policy

If you are interested in adopting a companion animal from FCHS, please be sure to read our Adoption Procedures and Policy.

Are you ready for a new pet?

Adopting a new companion into your home is a big step.  We want to make sure all adopters are aware of the time, cost, patience and energy required to be a responsible pet owner.  All animals will need to be provided a healthy diet, fresh water, veterinary care, physical exercise and mental stimulation.  Dogs will require year-round heartworm preventive. Adopting a pet can be a 10-20-year commitment.

Choosing your pet

Our staff will work with you and your family to find a pet that is right for your lifestyle. If you are considering one of our adoptable pets, we ask that you come in and meet with the animal. If you are looking to adopt a dog, and have other dogs at home, we request that you bring your pet in for a meet and greet before adopting.

Applying

You may fill out an application online prior to coming into the shelter.  We do not accept holds for specific pets until you have met the animal. Some pets may not be immediately available to leave the shelter. In order to be considered for adoption, you must be 21 years of age or older. If you rent, you should be aware of your landlord’s policy regarding pets.
